2008.4.1 A website for learing English grammar

website name: the internet grammar of english
website link: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/internet-grammar/

content:

The Internet Grammar of English is a website for grammar learner. It focuses on learners who are university undergraduates. On the other hand, this website aims to help those who have studied English for a period of time, even a native speaker, to understand why English is used in that way, why words are combined in that way and why some usages of English are wrong. However, it is ok for non-native speakers and new commers to try to learn grammar by the help of The Internet Grammar of English. On the front page, i saw a brief introduction of the website, and on the left column, I can link to the studying section I want, like content of grammar or excercise. It is easy to get to where I want. If I have no idea where to go, in the medial of the front page is a "click here to start" button, and I only have to put it. The moment I put it, it is as if there were a real teacher giving me a complete session of grammar. Also, I can just put "content of grammar" and there will be a list of categories. From the titles I can easily know what I can learn after linking to the next page. I chose one title or category randomly, and the sub-title or sub-category popped out on the right side of the page so that I could just choose directly which one I really needed. Finally, I was able to enjoy my own English grammar class unboundedly.

strength:

When The Internet Grammar of English and I first met, I found it was just like i had already knowns it. The front page told me the mission of this website so that before I spent time, probably wasted when the website didn't catch what i needed, going further, I could have a better idea if the website suits me. After i went into its courses, I was surprised that the teacher really did prepare. The website provided a full material for grammar learner, from, the most basicm, words to phrases, clause and sentences. And there are a lot of small tests so that I can test myself to see if I absorbed what I have just learned.

weakness:

For some reader, not me, the website will be considered a little plain. For a student who has a strong motivation to learn something, teacher of tutor only have to give them materials no matter how boring the materials can be. However, for a student who is forced to learn or who realize that he or she have to learn but doesn't want to from his of her bottom of heart, the materials ought to have something inspiring, something encouraging, something that makes people want it. Only if the motive is from the learner's deepest heart can she or he learns things well. That's wrong. If the motivation is inspired by some attractive things, this motivation can last long, too. If the website can attract people to spend more time on it, the learner will uncounsciously get a lot of useful messege of english grammar learning. And the website's mission is achieved.
